The WorkCover Board Tasmania is undertaking a broad, independent review of Tasmania's Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Scheme to ensure it remains effective, sustainable and responsive to the needs of workers, employers and the Tasmanian community into the future. The review will provide an evidence-based assessment of the Scheme's fairness, performance, governance arrangements and future direction.
The review comes at a time of increasing complexity across workers compensation systems nationally, including growth in psychological injury claims, increasing claim duration and complexity, and changing workforce structures. It will examine the Scheme's legislative and policy framework, design, administration and emerging risks, while also considering stakeholder experiences and benchmarking Tasmania's approach against contemporary practice across Australia. The review will be conducted by an independent review panel supported by dedicated project resources within WorkSafe Tasmania

It will be regularly updated with consultation materials, key milestones, discussion paper, reports, submissions information and opportunities for stakeholders to participate in the review process. We encourage workers, employers, insurers, unions, peak bodies, service providers and interested members of the community to visit regularly and engage with the review as it progresses.
Key objectives of the review
The review will identify opportunities to ensure the Scheme continues to:
- support injured workers and safe, durable return to work;
- provide fair, transparent and affordable compensation;
- remain financially sustainable;
- respond to changes in work, injury patterns and workforce structures; and
- maintain public confidence in the Scheme.
