The Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988 requires medical practitioners who reside, or who are providing a medical service within Tasmania and who wish to issue medical certificates for workers compensation to be accredited by the WorkCover Tasmania Board.
Medical practitioners who reside outside the state of Tasmania are not required to be accredited by the WorkCover Tasmania Board for the purposes of issuing medical certificates for workers compensation.
If you, as a registered medical practitioner, wish to apply for accreditation you will need to complete and return an application form, along with a questionnaire and verification form. An application kit can be obtained via the link provided below or by contacting the Helpline.
On receipt of the completed application form and attachments, the Board will assess your eligibility for accreditation as a medical practitioner in accordance with section 77C of the Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988. If your response to the questionnaire causes concern, an officer of the WorkCover Branch will contact you. As an accredited medical practitioner you may issue workers compensation certificates for the purposes of sections 34, 69 and 86 of the Act. This accreditation will remain in force for three years for medical practitioners and twelve months for Interns unless otherwise specified by the Board. Once you have been accredited you may obtain the approved workers compensation medical certificate pads or CD Rom from the WorkCover Branch.
